A new Fermilab Director
News, 23 June 2013
Fermi Research Alliance has named Nigel Lockyer, director of TRIUMF and professor of physics and astronomy at the University of British Columbia, the next Fermilab director.
Nigel has served since 2007 as the director of TRIUMF, where he has earned a reputation as a national scientific leader and team builder, expanding laboratory operations, building the ARIEL facility, developing a strong working relationship among Canada’s major labs and securing Canada’s first accelerator-science research agreements with Japan, India, China and Korea. Prior to leading TRIUMF, he spent more than two decades at the University of Pennsylvania, conducting research at Fermilab’s CDF experiment and for two years acting as the collaboration’s co-spokesperson
Nigel is a very accomplished laboratory director and particle physicist, and a truly excellent choice for the sixth Fermilab director. His term as Fermilab director will begin on September 3, 2013.
