At the India-JINR Forum
News, 18 June 2014
The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research with the support of the Embassy of India in the Russian Federation and the Russian Embassy in India holds the scientific Forum «Frontiers in Nuclear, Elementary Particle and Condensed Matter Physics» on 16-20 June 2014. The forum aims to enhance the existing and to find new promising forms of cooperation between leading research centres in India and JINR in the fields of fundamental experimental and theoretical physics.
On the Indian side more than 20 reputable experts from a number of key scientific research organizations in India participate in the forum. The Indian participants represent almost all areas of elementary particle physics, atomic nuclei and condensed matter which are priority basis for major JINR projects in experimental and theoretical physics. Studies on physics of relativistic heavy ions in the context of the NICA project of the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics, synthesis of superheavy elements and nuclear reactions in the frames of programmes of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, condensed matter physics in the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics, neutrino physics in the frames of experimental programmes of the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems are of large mutual interest. The entire spectrum of directions of theoretical and mathematical physics which are represented in research programme of the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics has great potential for development of cooperation.
Representatives of the Embassy of India in RF and the RF Ministry of Education and Science participated in the opening of the Forum. Reports discuss the major research directions and priorities of the scientific programmes of JINR and Indian institutes and laboratories.
On 17 and 19 June, in the frames of the Forum specialized workshops and meetings in JINR laboratories where scientists of JINR and Indian scientific organizations present their research in detail are being held.
An important part of the programme of the Forum was in the excursions for Indian scientists and guests of JINR to unique JINR experimental facilities and their acquaintance with them: the Nuclotron-M in VBLHEP, the accelerator complex in FLNR, the IBR-2M reactor and the spectrometer complex in FLNP.
A Round Table disscussion where milestones of the Forum will be totaled and experts will formulate their recommendations will be held at the milestone plenary session on 20 June.
