A group of 28 representatives of science and business from India spent five days in Russia. On Wednesday, September 17, 2014 the group visited JINR. The guests got acquainted with JINR laboratories, met with the JINR Directorate. The meeting was attended by JINR Director V.A. Matveev, JINR Vice-Directors M.G. Itkis and R. Lednický, JINR Chief Scientific Secretary N.A. Russakovich and Head of the International Cooperation Department D.V.Kamanin; participants of the meeting exchanged opinions, representatives of the Indian delegations highly appreciated their acquaintance with JINR.

The following comment on the visit was given by Science Attache of the Indian Embassy in the RF R. Bansal: The delegation came to Russia on the programme of the Department of Science and Technology of India, which enables scientists of our country to get acquainted with different scientific achievements in other countries. This year they were able to come to Russia, where we chose several institutions to visit, and JINR was one of them. We see opportunities for cooperation, there are points of mutual interest: physics is very well developed in JINR as well as in India. Yesterday we visited the MSU and visited the Chair of Astrophysics, the geological museum and saw the "Lomonosov" supercomputer. We also visited the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, which together with our Ministry of Science and Technology supports cooperation between our countries. Tomorrow we will go to Skolkovo, and then we will visit the RAS Space Research Institute, the next item in the programme is St. Petersburg."

Some results were summarized by V.A. Matveev: "We have not had such a high delegation representing fundamental science of India. We know that India is a country with very rich traditions in the fields of fundamental research; we know about the great achievements of Indian scientists. Of course, we would like to enhance the relations that exist with Indian institutions and scientists. In view of present rapid development of JINR, we face new challenges that are part of European and global programmes; we would very much like to build our relationships with Indian colleagues on a more regular basis. Of course, we dream that Indian scientists were with us when we consider perspectives of development of JINR. This topic has been already discussed, and representatives of Indian science had very good impression; we are supported by the Embassy of India in Russia. We look to those contacts with a great hope and we wait for positive results.

Here is how M.G. Itkis appreciated the visit of the delegation: "The first delegation consisted of experts of different nuclear physics centers (the India-JINR Forum, June of this year – O.T.), this one is more diversified: it includes representatives of different sciences. There are scientists who work in the fields of agriculture, medicine, engineering and other fields; there are also physicists, but the delegation is headed by Head of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education and Science of India. This is a very important visit, which takes place in the frames of the visit of the Indian delegation to the Russian Federation; and the fact that they decided to get acquainted with JINR is very important for development of our cooperation.

We have long wanted India to become the JINR Member State, all the more so India is in the BRICS. And we have longstanding relations with Indian scientists; they have worked and are working in JINR, so we hope that this cooperation will be even more fruitful. Research in nuclear physics, particle physics are well represented in a number of centers in India, they are actively collaborating with CERN, and in regard to the information technology, we will be interested to interact with their Indian colleagues, as it is the direction they are well developed. In the fields of nuclear power Russia fruitfully cooperates with India, so the field of cooperation is wide".
