On 15-16 June 2016, a delegation from the Republic of Botswana headed by Minister of Education and Skills Development Unity Dow and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Botswana in Russia Lameck Nthekela visited the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The delegation also included Chief Education Officer Dorcas Phirie, Professors of the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) Gregory Hillhouse and Boikobo Paya.

During the visit, a meeting with JINR Vice-Director Grigory Trubnikov, and Director of the JINR University Centre Stanislav Pakuliak, FLNR Deputy Director Andrei Popeko and Deputy Director of the Center of Applied Physics FLNR Pavel Apel was held; actual steps to enhance scientific and educational cooperation, especially between young researchers, were discussed at the meeting. Issues of cooperation with FLNR on nano-technological applications, in particular, track membranes were also discussed.

The delegation visited VBLHEP and FLNR. At the end of the visit, the Minister expressed interest in establishment of educational and research relations with JINR in the nearest years.
