On 16 May 2018, representatives of JINR and the Dubna State University, namely FLNR Scientific Leader Academician Yu.Ts. Oganessian, Head of the FLNR Sector Professor Yu.E. Penionzhkevich, Director of the JINR University Centre S.Z. Pakuliak and Rector of the Dubna State University D.V. Fursaev, visited the NRNU MEPhI.

Topical issues concerning training of technical personnel for JINR mega-projects were discussed at the meeting of the delegation from Dubna with the MEPhI directorate, leading scientists and professors of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and Technologies. In particular, the need to strengthen training of the Dubna State University graduates in engineering sciences as well as establishing of an engineering school at the university were mentioned. The parties agreed to work on expanding the traditional cooperation between MEPhI, JINR and the Dubna State University in the fields of engineering training of students.

MEPhI graduate, Scientific Leader of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions JINR, Academician Yuri Tsolakovich Oganessian, after whom element 118 of the Mendeleev Periodic Table was named in honour of his scientific contributions to synthesis of this element, shared his memories of his study at MEPhI.

In conclusion, MEPhI Rector M.N. Strikhanov presented the order “For Services to MEPhI” to the outstanding graduate of his Alma mater Academician Yu.Ts. Oganessian.
