JINR scientists held Particles and Nuclei Day at Moscow State University
News, 09 April 2024
On 30 March, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists of JINR (AYSS JINR), together with Skobeltsyn Institute of Nuclear Physics at Moscow State University (SINP MSU), organized Particles and Nuclei Day for junior students at the Physics Faculty at MSU. The event was dedicated to the Foundation Day of JINR.
In 1961, only five years after the foundation of JINR, specialised departments of the Institute were established at the Physics Faculty at Moscow State University. The first JINR Director, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (USSR AS) Dmitry Blokhintsev headed one of the departments; the other was headed by USSR AS Academician Vladimir Veksler.
Nowadays, Dubna specialised departments are still training personnel in high energy physics, elementary particle physics, nuclear physics, and neutronography.
Three employees of the Institute gave lectures on research areas of scientific groups working at JINR laboratories.
A leading researcher at the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics Wael Badawy opened the meeting with a report on the use of neutron activation analysis in archaeological and environmental research.
Ayagoz Baymukhanova, a researcher at the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, made a report entitled “Radiochemical research at DLNP at JINR”.
The event concluded with a talk about modern research into exotic isotopes made by a senior researcher at the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions Vratislav Chudoba.
Popular science lectures delivered by actively working representatives of the international scientific community stimulated great interest among students. The authors of the best questions asked to the speakers received presents from the JINR University Centre.
Following in the tradition of the two previous years, similar events will be organized regularly in autumn 2024 at the MSU Physics Faculty.
Those wishing to make reports on their scientific activities can write to nfedorov@jinr.ru. Scientists from all JINR laboratories are welcome to cooperate.
