News, 22 February 2018
On 21 February 2018, the framework agreement on cooperation between the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities represented by the Israeli Committees for High Energy Physics and Nuclear Physics was signed in the JINR Directorate. This agreement prolongs the agreement on cooperation of JINR with the Israel Academy of Sciences signed in July 2013.
High representatives of the Israel Academy of Sciences who came to JINR for signing the agreement were Chairman of the Israel Committee for High Energy Physics Eliezer Rabinovici and Chairman of the Israel Committee for Nuclear Physics Itzhak Tserruya who is also Chairman of the JINR PAC for Particle Physics.
The guests were warmly welcomed at the JINR Directorate by JINR Director V.A. Matveev, JINR Vice-Directors M.G. Itkis and R. Lednický, JINR Chief Scientific Secretary A.S. Sorin, Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department D.V. Kamanin and Director of the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics V.D. Kekelidze. In the course of the conversation, the parties noted the significant progress in development of scientific cooperation between Israel and JINR since signing of the first agreement and expressed their confidence in future large-scale development of the cooperation. V.A. Matveev expressed his gratitude to Itzhak Tserruya for his contribution to development of the Israel-JINR cooperation. In his turn, Itzhak Tserruya noted with great pleasure that Israel was the first among countries participating in the NICA mega science project a scientific team of which took part in experiments at the BM@N detector. Eliezer Rabinovici informed participants of the meeting that enhancement of scientific cooperation between Israel and JINR is supported at the higher level by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space of Israel.
The Israeli party met with enthusiasm the proposal to develop further cooperation by attracting young scientists from Israel to participation in the JINR educational programmes, particularly in the Summer Student Programme, as well as to use all means for wider acquaintance of science and international cooperation managers with the JINR infrastructure, including traditional short-term JINR training programmes for administrative personnel. The meeting in the JINR Directorate was concluded by the ceremonial signing of the agreement for five-year cooperation in the fields of experimental and theoretical, astroparticle, nuclear and particle physics and related technologies. The agreement also presupposes joint participation in projects of experiments and R&D efforts, exchange of information, technology and scientists, organization of joint seminars and schools.
