JINR Director’s congratulations on Institute’s Foundation Day

News, 26 March 2025

Dear colleagues,

Congratulations to all of us on the 69th anniversary of the foundation of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

Our Institute is a multi-faceted scientific centre in terms of structure and cooperation. Our employees represent many professions, cultures, and nationalities. All of them create and maintain a solid foundation for studying the laws of nature and experimentally proving them, creating scientific theories and performing calculations to confirm them.

UNESCO declared 2025 the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology to celebrate the 100th anniversary of quantum mechanics. We have every reason to be proud of the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics, which made a significant contribution to this field throughout its history.

Our experimental physicists, engineers, and design engineers create and modernise unique facilities. Several important events took place this year: operation of the IBR-2 Reactor was resumed after a three-year shutdown, the LINAC-200 Linear Accelerator was launched, and NICA, Baikal-GVD, and a complex for superheavy element synthesis are being constructed.

This year marks the first anniversary of the FLNR‘s Applied Physics Centre, and the Laboratory of Radiation Biology turns 20. These facilities enrich our Topical Plan with new areas of study, which open up prospects for scientific breakthroughs eagerly anticipated by researchers all over the world.

However, we have yet to celebrate the key event, the 70th JINR anniversary. We genuinely hope for the anniversary events to tell the whole world about JINR’s capabilities, attract new scientists to work at our main facilities and participate in our projects.

Despite all obstacles, we are confidently moving ahead, towards our goals, full of enthusiasm for the future. The global community of scientists, colleagues from Member States, Associate Members, and our numerous partners give us strength and support. This day is for all of us to celebrate and express our gratitude to those who work for the benefit of science and those who did so before us.

Dear colleagues and friends, I wish you to pursue ambitious goals and achieve great success. May your journey be filled with inspiration, vigour, and luck!

JINR Director, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Grigory Trubnikov
