JINR Days in Serbia: 10 years together

From 14 to 19 March 2017, events dedicated to the 10th anniversary of participation of the Republic of Serbia in the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research as an associated member and the past 60th anniversary of JINR were held in Serbia. A JINR delegation of members of the Serbia-JINR Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) and leaders of joint projects headed by Vice-Director R. Lednický flew to Belgrade. The festive events were tied in time to the 4th International Russian-Serbian Industrial Exhibition “EXPO RUSSIA SERBIA 2017”, where JINR was represented by a stand.
On 15 March, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development Vladimir Popović met with the full JCC. The meeting was attended by Assistant Minister Viktor Nedović. During the meeting, the participants discussed the main challenges and prospects of cooperation between JINR and Serbia, as well as the adoption of the Cooperation Roadmap 2017-2020 approved by the 4th session of the JCC.
On 16 March, JINR Vice-Director R. Lednický made a presentation at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) about the present JINR and the results of the 10 years cooperation between JINR and scientific organizations of Serbia. The presentation was preceded by a meeting of leaders of the JINR delegation with SASA Vice-President Zoran Popović. Viktor Nedović made a welcoming speech on behalf of the Ministry. The lecture brought together more than two hundred listeners.
On the same day, the JINR delegation visited the University of Novi Sad, where the guests from Dubna were received by University Rector Dušan Nikolić, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences Milica Pavkov-Hrvojević and Professor of the Physics Department Miodrag Krmar. The meeting participants discussed possible steps on enhancement of cooperation between JINR and the University, primarily, participation of students of the University of Novi Sad in JINR educational programmes. An excursion to the nuclear physics laboratories of the University was organized for the guests from Dubna.
On 17 March, the JINR delegation visited the Laboratory of Physics of the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences which has a long-term successful cooperation with Dubna. The focus of the meeting in the Laboratory was the development of cooperation in accelerating issues.
At the end of the exhibition, the JINR delegation took part in a Roundtable jointly with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia “Extending Cooperation between Russia and Serbia in Higher and Secondary Education”. UC Deputy Director A. Zhemchugov made a report on the educational programmes of JINR.
As a result of active work of the JINR stand at the exhibition new promising contacts were established not only on the Serbian side, but also on the Russian side. As a next step in development of cooperation a visit of Vladimir Popović accompanied by Coordinator of Serbia-JINR Cooperation Srdjan Petrović for participation in a session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the JINR Member States is expected.
