On 15 February, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research hosted a vibrant celebration of the Eastern New Year organized by the International Cooperation Department and the Council of Heads of National Groups together with the National Groups of Vietnam and Mongolia and colleagues from South Korea and China. The event brought together over 200 participants from 18 countries, making it a truly international occasion.
The programme featured participants from Vietnam, Mongolia, South Korea, and China sharing their Lunar New Year traditions. The guests listened to national songs, engaged in cultural practices of the East, and learned about Eastern ceremonies and rituals.
After the official part, attendees enjoyed traditional dishes prepared by representatives of the Mongolia and Vietnam National Groups. Eastern style of the decorations and thematic New Year ornaments created a family-like, festive atmosphere.
Special attention was paid to children. During a master class, they made red lanterns, which, according to an ancient legend, save the New Year every year by scaring away the mythological monster Nian.
The celebration was a memorable event that helped JINR employees from different corners of the world to learn more about each other’s traditions and customs.
