JINR announces innovation development competition
News, 14 February 2025
The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is accepting applications for innovative research & development projects with high potential for implementation in industry, scientific instrumentation, and the social sphere. Based on the selection results, young developers from the JINR Member States will receive financial support.
The initiative aims to support R&D activities aligned with the scientific and technological development priorities of the JINR Member States and to foster the Institute’s human resources.
Teams of young developers consisting of 3 to 10 members, including scientists, specialists, postgraduates, and students from the JINR Member States, are invited to participate. The leader and the majority of the team members must be no older than 39 at the time of application submission. The assigned planning horizon can be up to 3 years.
Proposed innovative developments in the application must align with one or more of the following areas:
- radiation technology;
- accelerator technology;
- equipment and technology for medicine and laboratory diagnostics;
- information technology and artificial intelligence;
- automation, robotics, and control systems in technical fields;
- scientific instrument design;
- nuclear medicine;
- ecology, sustainable development, and climate change;
- new materials;
- chemical technology;
- biotechnology and food safety;
- energy storage and future energy systems.
This initiative is focused on the creation of innovative products (materials, devices, instruments, software, services, etc.). The implementation of the project should contribute to increasing the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of the target product and creating conditions for the successful transfer of the developed technologies (taking into account the involvement of industry partners and intellectual property protection). In addition, the application evaluation will include the assessment of the proposed R&D project’s significance in enhancing the efficiency of JINR’s scientific infrastructure and competencies in international, interlaboratory, and interdisciplinary developments.
The selection results will be announced in June 2025. Between 5 and 10 teams will receive annual support ranging from 2 to 4 million roubles. The deadline for applications is 25 March 2025.
Information about the selection procedure and other details about the competition are available in Indico (registration is required for access).
