Interactive guide to JINR laboratories launched
News, 07 July 2023
The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is launching the JINR InfoGuide project. Interactive terminals operating in Russian and English are available to citizens and guests of the science city in the JINR Museum and the Dubna Hotel on 2, Moskovskaya str. The InfoGuide gives you an opportunity to make an exciting virtual journey accompanied by the scientists, who will introduce everyone interested to the science of the Joint Institute. In addition, you can visit the NICA Collider and try your hand at the quest.
At the initiative of the JINR University Centre, an interactive terminal was developed. It has a touch screen with a diagonal of more than two metres and a built-in soundbar, which allows simulating a dialogue with a real person. Users can select any question on the screen and get a video answer from a scientist working in one of the seven JINR laboratories. At the next step, the InfoGuide will offer to go deeper into the chosen scientific field and explore the topic in more detail. Thanks to the user-friendly menu, you can navigate through different topics at any step.
“Quest through collider” will be an interesting addition to the acquaintance with science. This is an interactive journey through all the segments of the NICA Accelerator Complex. The guide scientist will tell and show the guests how the particles are accelerated and where their source is, what are the tasks of the Booster and the Nuclotron accelerators. Together with a virtual guide, you will be able to walk through the tunnels of the collider ring, visit the hall of an experimental facility that will record collisions of accelerated beams. At each stage, you have to give the correct answer to the scientist’s question in order to move further. At the end of the quest, there will be a surprise. The “traveller” will be able to do what the creators of the NICA Megascience Project have been doing all the years of its implementation.
The JINR InfoGuide project, for which UC JINR filmed and edited several hours of popular science content, will continue to develop. At the next stage, it is planned to introduce gamification. It will allow, for example, holding competitions between users of the InfoGuide.
Now the JINR InfoGuide is located in two key points open to the public, namely in the Museum of History of Science and Technology of JINR at 6/2, Flerov str. and in the hall of the 3rd building of the Dubna Hotel at 2, Moskovskaya str. The JINR InfoGuides are expected to appear in partner universities and JINR Information Centres in order to raise awareness of JINR, as well as increase public interest in science.
