AYSS-2024 International Conference starts at MLIT at JINR

On 28 October, the 28th International Conference of Young Scientists and Specialists (AYSS-2024) began at the Laboratory of Information Technologies of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, gathering more than 260 youth representatives from around the world. During the week, the event attendees will give talks and participate in discussions on important issues of modern science.

JINR Director, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Grigory Trubnikov welcomed the participants with a speech. Emphasising the importance of AYSS-2024 for the development of international scientific cooperation and training of young generation of researchers, he expressed confidence that the conference will be a good platform for fruitful exchange of ideas and establishment of new scientific contacts. At the plenary session, Grigory Trubnikov presented a detailed overview of the activity of the Joint Institute as an international intergovernmental organization, introducing young scientists to the modern scientific infrastructure and the range of promising research carried out in the JINR laboratories.

Director of the JINR University Centre Dmitry Kamanin made a presentation on the work of the JINR UC aimed at organizing scientific and educational activities and training highly qualified personnel. He highlighted the active development of the conference and the increasing number of participants from around the world. “This year, 262 young specialists from 17 countries are taking part in the event, which is a record indicator ever in its history,” Dmitry Kamanin underlined. Victor Braguta, Head of the BLTP JINR Hadron Matter Physics Sector, closed the plenary session programme with a presentation on the simulation of the theory of strong interaction on supercomputers.

Alexander Madumarov, co-chair of the AYSS-2024 Organizing Committee, Head of the FLNR JINR Gas Chemistry Group, informed the participants about the work organization at the event.

In 2024, young specialists from Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Cuba, Egypt, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Romania, Russia, Serbia, South Africa, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam became participants of the AYSS conference. Along with the leading JINR scientists, they will have an opportunity to make presentations as part of nine sections:

  • Theoretical Physics,
  • Mathematical Modeling and Computational Physics,
  • High Energy Physics,
  • Particle Accelerators and Nuclear Reactors,
  • Experimental Nuclear Physics,
  • Information Technology,
  • Condensed Matter Physics,
  • Applied Research,
  • Life Sciences.

In cooperation with the Programme Committee, the Organizing Committee of the conference carried out major preparatory work, paying special attention to the assessment of the scientific value of the submitted abstracts. According to the event programme, 200 talks and more than 40 posters will be presented.

“We expect a very rich and informative scientific programme to be the highlight of the AYSS conference. Speakers from all seven laboratories of the Joint Institute and 53 scientific organizations will make interesting presentations and discuss in detail about the most promising research areas implemented at JINR. Today, the younger generation of scientists has a unique opportunity to demonstrate the results of serious scientific work and establish themselves as promising specialists. For all participants, this conference can be one of the first steps on the way to big science,” Alexander Madumarov, co-chairman of the AYSS-2024 Organizing Committee, shared his expectations from the conference.
