Annual expedition for construction of Baikal Neutrino Telescope in full swing
News, 01 March 2021
In 2021, the collaboration of the Baikal-GVD is going to carry out partial modification of the operating clusters, repairs of facility’s elements that have broken down, as well as to build two lines of optoelectrical cables to the coastal centre and to deploy the 8th standard cluster.
In 2020, the experimental section was assembled using the data transfer technique inside the facility with the CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) optical fibre. The equipment has been successfully tested in real conditions thus allowing installation of the 9th cluster based on this technology. Only two strings will be installed at it now: one with the calibration laser light source and the other one with the hydrologic system of three cable stations.
The expedition will last from 15 February to 15 April 2021.
