JINR has taken part in the Vietnam Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology (VINANST-14) held on 9 – 10 December in Da Lat. The organizer of VINANST-14 is the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM). The cooperation agreement on carrying out research and training of the scientific and engineering staff signed in 2019 strengthened a long-standing partnership between JINR and this organization.
The VINANST-14 conference is timed to the 40th VINATOM anniversary and aims to become a platform for discussions and exchange of results of the latest research in various fields of nuclear science and technology. The event has gathered representatives of Vietnamese scientific organizations, as well as experts and researchers from Japan and the USA.
Director of the Joint Institute Academician Grigory Trubnikov made a report at the event. In his speech, he paid special attention to the enhancement of the cooperation between JINR and Vietnam, which is one of the Institute’s founding states. Among other things, the JINR Director presented the latest results and achievements of JINR, as well as the Long-term development strategy of the Institute until 2030 and further, which was first presented at the session of the Committee of Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Governments of the JINR Member States in November 2019 in Hanoi.
Grigory Trubnikov highlighted that “the past CP session in Hanoi considerably contributed to the development of the Joint Institute.” Academician Trubnikov recalled also other results of the CP JINR session in Hanoi, including the decision to create a working group to develop cooperation between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, VINATOM, and JINR thus to support a new reactor in Vietnam with the corresponding research programme. Participation of the Institute in the development of this reactor and the ongoing upgrade of the JINR infrastructure gave a strong impetus to the cooperation enhancement.
“We highly appreciate cooperation with VINATOM in the framework of which our scientists work jointly on innovation projects in such fields of nuclear technology as research reactors, nuclear and radiation medicine, beam therapy. Specialists jointly develop methods for producing and storing radionuclides,” the JINR Director listed the cooperation fields with VINATOM. Moreover, Grigory Trubnikov highlighted the need to extend cooperation between JINR and Vietnam through educational programmes and training of highly qualified staff.
In conclusion, Grigory Trubnikov wished all participants of the conference fruitful work and invited representatives of present institutions to visit the international centre in Dubna.
