Seminar topic: “Development, creation, and further evolution of the Event Picking Service within the ATLAS Event Index project”
Speaker: Alexander Yakovlev
Abstract:
Event Picking Service, intended for mass selection of events from a set of ATLAS data, was developed and launched into operation as part of the ATLAS Event Index project. During physical analysis, it is often necessary to extract a large number of specified events in order to study their properties using alternative or improved algorithms. The Event Picking Service automates the procedure of searching and extracting individual events from the files in which they are stored and providing them to the service user.

Seminar topic: “Comparison of various optimisation methods in the quantum QAOA algorithm for the Ising model”
Speaker: Iurie Palii
Abstract:
A simulation of the operation of the quantum approximation optimisation algorithm (QAOA) examplified by searching for the state with the lowest energy in the Ising model with a longitudinal magnetic field on a simulator of quantum computing in the Cirq framework. The wavefunction ansatz, containing 6 parameters, was used to calculate the energy value, which was minimised via methods taken from the SciPy Optimisation library. It is shown that modelling the measurement of the states of all register qubits requires more computer memory, but less calculation time compared to the Hadamard test, in which only the state of one additional qubit is measured.
