Abstract:

Photon absorption coefficients are calculated for kinematically allowed channels in the process of Compton scattering in a relatively strong magnetic field, taking into account the possible resonance on a virtual electron. A comparative analysis of the results obtained with the non-resonant case is carried out. Reviewed approximation of the resonant peak by a delta function. It is shown that the delta-shaped approximation of the resonant peak describes the photon absorption coefficient well, greatly simplifying the further solution of the radiation transfer problem.

The process of propagation of an electromagnetic wave in a highly magnetized, charge-symmetric plasma is investigated. It is shown that, similar to the case of a pure magnetic field, the process of photon attenuation in a magnetized plasma has a non-exponential character. It is established that the calculation of the absorption coefficient taking into account the non-exponential nature of attenuation leads to a finite expression for the photon absorption coefficient in the vicinity of cyclotron resonances.

A solution of the kinetic equation is obtained for finding the photon distribution function of two possible polarizations in the equilibrium in a non-relativistic electron plasma and in a relatively strong magnetic field, taking into account the resonance on a virtual electron.
