137th session of JINR Scientific Council

On 13-14 February 2025, the 137th session of the Scientific Council of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research will take place at the JINR International Conference Centre in a hybrid format. At the meeting, the council members will hear news of the Institute’s laboratories and departments, elect the Scientific Council Co-Chair, Director of the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, and Deputy Directors of the Laboratory of Radiation Biology. The jury’s decision on awarding the annual JINR prizes for the best scientific papers will be announced.

The session will start with the election of the Scientific Council Co-Chair. Afterwards, JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov will give a presentation on the Institute’s news and the laboratories’ scientific achievements. The Chairs of the JINR Programme Advisory Committees, Itzhak Tserruya (PAC PP), Valery Nesvizhevsky (PAC NP), and Dénes Lajos Nagy (PAC CMP), will present the PAC recommendations adopted at the sessions in January 2025. Grigory Trubnikov will discuss the PACs’ composition.

The Director of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions will be elected, and final decisions on the appointment of the Deputy Directors of the Laboratory of Radiation Biology will be made through voting. The procedure will be preceded by presentations on a shared topic, “Proposals for the FLNR development programme for 2025–2029”, by candidates for the position of FLNR Director. After that, LRB Director Alexander Bugay will put forward a proposal on the appointment of his deputies. In the end of the first day, the SC members will visit the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems.

On Friday, 14 February, young scientists of the Institute will present the talks recommended at the meetings of the Programme Advisory Committees to the SC members. A senior engineer at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics Aleksei Slivin will talk about the creation of the ISCRA and SIMBO Stations for applied research at the NICA Complex and the radiation resistance testing of microcircuits at the SOCHI Station. An FLNR senior engineer Dmitriy Pugachev will deliver a presentation “Intense metallic ion beams for SHE synthesis”. A researcher of the Laboratory of Neutron Physics Anton Rutkauskas will talk about the structural and vibrational properties of the Cu3Bi(SeO3)2O2Cl francisite at high pressure.

JINR Vice-Director Sergey Dmitriev will announce the jury’s decision on awarding the annual JINR prizes for the best scientific papers, including methodological and techological ones. At the end of the event, Grigory Trubnikov will announce new JINR honorary doctors. A general discussion and adoption of the resolution of the Scientific Council will conclude the 137th meeting.
