Seminar topic: “Study of Photonuclear Reactions in 165Ho Nucleus at the LINAC-200 Accelerator”

Speaker: Jurabek Khushvaktov

Abstract:

Currently, photonuclear reactions are investigated in order to study the mechanism of formation of bypassed nuclei (74Se, 78Kr, 84Sr, 92Mo, 96Ru, etc.), isospin splitting of the giant dipole resonance, multinucleon photonuclear reactions with the emission of up to 10 nucleons, photofission of actinide nuclei (U, Th), and isomeric ratios in photonuclear reactions.

The results of studying the cross section and yield of photonuclear reactions in the 165Ho nucleus will be discussed at the seminar. Similar studies are planned for other monoisotopic elements. The experiments were carried out at the LINAС-200 electron accelerator whose lead converter was irradiated with electron beams at the energies of 60, 80 and 100 MeV, and holmium samples were irradiated with a flux of bremsstrahlung which was formed in the lead converter. The rates of about 20 photonuclear reactions in 165Ho induced by bremsstrahlung were measured. The cross sections for the 165Ho(γ,n)164Ho, 165Ho(γ,3n)162mHo, 165Ho(γ,4n)161Ho, 165Ho(γ,5n)160Ho, 165Ho(γ,5n)160mHo, and 165Ho(γ,6n)159Ho reactions were experimentally determined in the energy range from 50 to 110 MeV. In addition, simulations were performed using the Geant4 code to determine the cross-section and reaction yields in holmium samples. The simulation results were compared with the obtained experimental data.
