Dear colleagues and friends,

The Joint Institute is hosting meetings of the NICA Megascience project collaborations. The BM@N Experiment collaboration meeting has concluded recently, and this week scientists were discussing the progress of the MPD Detector.

The development of the Dubna collider project was also the topic of a Russia-China Workshop aimed at planning further joint research. JINR scientists actively participated in the 5th International Forum on Nuclear Physics in Kazakhstan.

This week the Institute also celebrates the 80th anniversary of the birth of Alexei Sissakian, an outstanding JINR scientist. You can learn about the literature exhibition in memory of the academician, a new JINR patent, scientific events and much more in today’s issue of the JINR Newsletter.

Cooperation

JINR at Nuclear Science and Technology International Forum in Republic of Kazakhstan

The event, organized with the participation of Republic’s Ministries and scientific and educational institutions and supported by CERN, finished on 11 October at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Among the main discussion topics were latest research achievements and international cooperation, with JINR’s contribution highlighted in both.

Joint Russia-PRC seminar on NICA Project held in China

On 10–13 September, Qingdao hosted the 2nd China-Russia Joint Workshop on the NICA Facility. Research teams from JINR and various Chinese universities discussed the latest achievements of the MPD Experiment, first results of the BM@N Collaboration, the Chinese RHIC Collider, and plans for further collaborative research.

Conferences

MPD Collaboration Meeting took place at VBLHEP at JINR

On 14–16 October, the Laboratory of High Energy Physics at JINR hosted the 14th Collaboration Meeting of the MPD Experiment at the NICA Complex. The participants reviewed the progress of the collider’s construction and new ideas and initiatives on using the MPD Detector.

Autumn IT-School finished at JINR

Research

Program for predicting radiation damage to nerve cells registered

LRB JINR employees created and patented software for radiobiological estimation of the harmful effect of various types of ionising radiation on the structures of the central nervous system taking into account a detailed description of the subneuronal target, track structure, and radiolysis mechanism.

Exhibition in S&T Library in memory of Academician Alexei Sissakian

From 14 October, the JINR Science and Technology Library is hosting a literature exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of JINR Director in 2006-2010 Alexei Sissakian. Readers can find monographs, poetry anthologies, journal articles by the outstanding scientist, and much more.

JINR employee in international table tennis tournament

Turkey hosted the 30th International Masters Table Tennis Tournament, gathering over 500 athletes from all over the world. A JINR Sports Club instructor Inna Tikhomirova won 4 medals, including 3 first-place ones. Congratulations on the achievements!
