Festival for the curious
News, 30 March 2015
The Days of Physics at JINR were held on 27-29 March in the Cultural Center “Mir”. The event was organized by the Interschool additional course of Mathematics and Physics, the UC JINR and the University “Dubna”. The Games are held for the second time with permanent success. The aim of the event is to acquaint 1-11-year school students with the world of physical and chemical phenomena which is much more interesting than it seems from school textbooks, and to inspire them with these sciences. Like in the previous year, schoolchildren demonstrated fascinating experiments, but this year guests joined the students from Dubna; these were students from the Moscow lyceum № 1514 and the lyceum № 30 from St. Petersburg.Lectures on game theory and solved and unsolved issues of mathematics, effective chemical experiments were organized for high school students by staff members of the Department of Chemistry of the University “Dubna”; a tournament on robotics was held in the frames of the JINR Days of Physics in the University. There was enough space in the Cultural Center to distribute “experimental” tables in a large area; this made it possible for all, including preschoolers, to see everything that could be touched and what they participated in, if it was necessary.
On the final day of the festival, Victoria Tokareva, Irina Osipenkova, Irina Glagoleva, Yuri Bobrinev, Anastasia Zlotnikova held master classes. Teams of school students from 8-9 classes held math battles and schoolchildren from 10-11 classes held physics battles.
