Conferences, 21 June 2015

The multidisciplinary forum Brazil–JINR which was started on 15 June and was devoted to research in the fields of nuclear physics, particle physics and condensed matter physics finished its work on 19 June 2015 in the International Conference Hall.
During the week of the Forum, its participants presented 19 plenary reports and more than 53 reports in specified areas of which 44 were devoted to theoretical work; this fact reflects the presence of several already established directions of cooperation in the frames of the four topics in theoretical physics (in accordance with the Topical plan for JINR research). Leaders of national groups of employees of the JINR Member States, representatives of the JINR associated members – Germany and South Africa, and also India actively participated in the plenary sessions and a concluding roundtable meeting. During the exchange of opinions in the course of the round table, a mutual interest in development of cooperation between Brazilian and Dubna scientists was underlined, as well as the important role of educational programmes, in particular, an interest of the Brazilian side in the JINR summer student programme. Representatives of India and South Africa noted wide opportunities at JINR for projects from the BRICS countries; the integrating role of JINR as one of the bridges between Brazilian research organizations and research organizations of the JINR Member States was discussed.
After the round table meeting, a declaration on proposals on Brazil–JINR cooperation was signed. The document expresses the view of the Brazilian participants of the Forum; it contains proposals for development of cooperation between Brazilian research centers and JINR laboratories with a concrete plan of action for the nearest future, for implementation of which an informal joint committee will be established. The plan also provides for an appeal to foundations that finance scientific exchange in Brazil, mutual distribution of information, work with students and young scientists. The participants of the forum got acquainted not only with scientific aspects of JINR but also with principles of its organization, supported the idea of associate membership of Brazil at JINR based on the Cooperation Agreement at the governmental level.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil Antonio Jose Vallim Guerreiro noted after signing of the document that this forum is of great importance because JINR is known in the world not only for scientific discoveries; JINR also allows interaction of the member states with Brazilian research centers. It is necessary to have a formal base to continue successful cooperation, and in this case, this agreement seems to be quite promising.
