The three-day forum “RSA-JINR: 5 years together” which was held at Pretoria, the RSA, was finished on 10 February. Participants of the forum discussed and highly appreciated the results of 5 years of cooperation. It was noted that basic principles of the cooperation do not need reconsideration, there is a huge potential for further development of the cooperation and possibilities for increasing of efficiency of application of available resources.
The forum considered that mutual implementation of major infrastructure projects at the RSA and at JINR can considerably deepen the cooperation both in scientific issues and educational issues. Such infrastructure projects may include participation of the RSA in NICA/MPD project and JINR’s participation in construction of a university cyclotron centre for research and education in South Africa.
One of the most important topics of the discussion was a Road Map of the further development of cooperation, which may include rising of the RSA status at JINR, up to joining the JINR Member States.
On outcomes of the meeting, a statement of the forum where main decisions were briefly summarized and goals were set, was signed. These decisions and goals will be directed to the Joint Coordination Committee whose regular session is planned to be held on 26 April 2011 in Dubna.
