1st Korea-Russia Science & Technology Day

On 5 June 2017, a JINR delegation participated in the First Korea-Russia Science and Technology Day, organized by the Korea Russia Science & Technology Cooperation Center KORUSTEC and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research RFBR. Members of the delegation discussed measures for development of further contacts between JINR and Korean scientists with a number of officials representing the international units of the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), as well as with the KORUSTEC leadership. The JINR delegation consisted of Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department D.V. Kamanin, Head of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics of the FLNP JINR A.V. Belushkin, Advisor to the JINR Directorate M.Yu. Tumanova.
Director of the Asia Pacific Centre for Theoretical Physics (APCTP), Professor Bum-Hoon Lee who have been cooperating with JINR for over decade made a key-note speech “Korea-Russia basic science cooperation for future” at the first session of the event. Professor Bum-Hoon Lee spoke in detail in his report about the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, as well as the long-term and successful cooperation between JINR and the Republic of Korea and Republic, noting that this can serve as an engine to develop the cooperation between Russia and Korea in the fields of fundamental research. During a discussion with the JINR representatives, he emphasized the necessity and importance of informing Korean scientists about areas of the JINR scientific research, JINR scientific infrastructure and its further development; he also agreed to participate actively in this work.
Participation of the JINR delegation in this event was conditioned by the recent steps in development of cooperation: in the beginning of April, a JINR delegation visited Korea, where a number of meetings in Korean universities were held, and, in the middle of April, a delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and leaders of the KORUSTEC visited JINR.
