AYSS seminar at JINR Scientists’ Club
Seminars
On 12 February 2025, at 4:00 PM, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists at JINR invites everyone interested to the next seminar that will take place in the Big Hall of the JINR Scientists’ Club (6 Joliot-Curie St, left side).
A DLNP senior researcher Amaresh Datta will deliver a presentation titled “Delving deeper: LEGO bricks of nature — the protons”.
About half the human body’s weight comes from protons. So does almost the total known (baryonic) mass of the entire Universe. Understanding the particles humans are made of is of significance for them since “self-knowledge”, a psychological term, is as relevant today as ever. Looking into the structure of what people once thought of as a “fundamental” particle is a core activity among many particle physicists all over the world. In this seminar, the speaker will look back at the history of studying the proton structure and review present understanding of this very basic building block of nature.
