International workshop on supersymmetries and quantum symmetries starts at BLTP at JINR

News, 29 July 2024

On 29 July, the Supersymmetries and Quantum Symmetries International Workshop (SQS’24) started at the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics at JINR. This year, the event brought together more than 80 specialists in theoretical and mathematical physics participating both online and in person.

At the event’s opening, Chief Researcher at the BLTP JINR Supersymmetries Sector Evgeny Ivanov spoke in detail about the history and development of the Supersymmentries and Quantum Symmetries Conference (SQS). He emphasised that the international workshop continues to attract the attention of scientists engaged in research of these areas, providing a platform to discuss the most important and relevant issues of modern theoretical physics. “I hope that the active involvement of the younger generation of researchers will stimulate the further development and expansion of the conference,” Evgeny Ivanov said.

JINR Vice-Director Latchesar Kostov greeted the workshop participants. He noted that the event is one of the first specialised conferences at the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics at JINR, which has become acknowledged by the specialists from all over the world. “Here novice researchers have an opportunity to acquire the necessary experience in theoretical physics and gain scientific knowledge provided by leading specialists,” JINR Vice-Director said, highlighting the unifying role of the event for the scientific community.

During the week, the participants will discuss the following topics:

  • string and higher-spin theory;
  • quantum andgeometric aspects of supersymmetric theories;
  • supersymmetric integrable models;
  • quantum groups and noncommutative geometry;
  • the Standard Model and its supersymmetric extensions.

The Supersymmetries and Quantum Symmetries International Workshop was established by Professor Victor I. Ogievetsky (1928 – 1996). The Laboratory of Theoretical Physics at JINR has been holding the event since 1989. Since 1993, the meetings have become international. To commemorate the outstanding scientist and his contribution to theoretical physics, the SQS workshop is organized biennially. The topics of the meeting cover the areas of research that were closest to Victor Ogievetsky’s scientific interests, including string theory, quantum groups, grand unification theory, integrable systems, and others. The attention of leading researchers of modern theoretical high energy physics and mathematical physics still focuses on these scientific areas.

The event will last until 3 August. The working languages of the meeting are English and Russian.
