Yuri Oganessian was nominated for the “Made in Russia” Award

The Ministry of investments and innovations of the Moscow region informed that Yuri Oganessian (JINR) was nominated for the “Made in Russia – 2016” Award.
Yuri Oganessian conducted successful experiments on synthesis of superheavy elements, including the heaviest for today 116, 117 and 118 ones which were officially confirmed by the IUPAC in 2016.
In June 2016, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) gave the names of four new elements: nihonium, moscovium, tennessine, and oganesson appeared in the D.Mendeleev Periodic Table, element 118 was named in honour of the Russian scientist Yuri Oganessian. As it was written on the website of IUPAC,”His many achievements include the discovery of superheavy elements and significant advances in the nuclear physics of superheavy nuclei”. The element with atomic number 115 – ”Moscovium is named in recognition of the Moscow region and honours the ancient Russian land that is the home of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, where the discovery experiments were conducted”.
The “Made in Russia” Award was established to honour Russian people who have achieved outstanding results in arts and economy, science and sports.
