Second precision laser inclinometer installed in Kamchatka

Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems at JINR together with the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Centre “Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences” (KB FRC UGS RAS) and Vitus Bering Kamchatka State University (KamSU) continue the successful scientific and technical cooperation.
In December, a group of DLNP JINR employees, namely Karen Bunyatov, Alexey Krasnoperov, Alexey Kuzkin, Roman Ni, and Andrey Pluzhnikov, led by Mikhail Lyablin, the Head of the Laser Metrology Sector No. 1 of the DLNP Department of Research and Innovation, arrived in Kamchatka to install a second compact precision laser inclinometer (CPLI) to observe deformation processes of the Earth’s crust and the development of technologies for monitoring geodynamic processes.
During the visit, Mikhail Lyablin held two scientific seminars at the Kamchatka branch of the FRC “Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences” and at the Institute of Cosmophysical Research and Radio Wave Propagation FEB RAS based on the operation results of the first CPLI, installed a year ago. The seminar was a success. In general, experts were really interested in the first results of the device’s operation in Kamchatka, and geophysicists asked the scientist some clarifying questions. The advantage of the device in observing microseismic phenomena was also noted.
Acting Rector of the Vitus Bering University Olga Rebkovets, KB FRC UGS RAS Director Danila Chebrov, and Head of the JINR Information Centre at the University Daniyal Israpilov participated in a number of meetings.
The DLNP employees completed the maintenance and upgrade of CPLI No. 1, installed and commissioned CPLI No. 2 in the seismic chambers of the Federal Research Centre “Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences”.
JINR, Vitus Bering Kamchatka State University, and the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Centre “Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences” continue to successfully develop scientific cooperation.
The main works will focus on:
- the study of the joint operation of two CPLIs;
- the creation of a PLI, containing mainly Russian components, with low (<2W) energy consumption, adapted to operate in the field conditions.
