News, 23 November 2023
On 21 November, diplomas on conferring academic degrees were presented during an award ceremony at the JINR Scientists’ Club. Three Candidate of Sciences (equivalent to a PhD), who defended their dissertations at the meetings of the Dissertation Councils of DLNP, FLNP, and MLIT at JINR, received the diplomas.
Pavel S. Prusachenko, a citizen of the Russian Federation, was awarded the academic degree of Candidate of Physics and Mathematics based on the results of the defence of the dissertation “Measurement of the 13C(α,n0)16O reaction cross-section in the energy range of 2-6.2 MeV” in the specialty 1.3.2 “Instruments and methods of experimental physics”. The defence was held at the meeting of the DLNP Dissertation Council on Nuclear Physics.
Nguyen Van Tiep, a citizen of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, was awarded the academic degree of Candidate of Physics and Mathematics based on the results of the defence of the dissertation “Features of helium swelling in ferritic alloys” in the speciality 1.3.8. “Condensed Matter Physics”. The defence was held at the meeting of the FLNP Dissertation Council on Condensed Matter Physics.
Evgeny I. Alexandrov, a citizen of the Russian Federation, was awarded the academic degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences based on the results of the defence of the dissertation “Development of specialised databases and information systems for experimental high energy physics” in the specialty 2.3.5. “Mathematics and software for computing systems, complexes, and computer networks”. The defence was held at the meeting of the MLIT Dissertation Council on IT and Computational Physics.
By tradition, the representatives of the JINR Qualification Committee, guests, and the scientific secretaries of the Dissertation Councils, at meetings of which the defences took place, participated in the event.
Chairman of the JINR Qualification Committee Victor Matveev highlighted the importance of new dissertation defences for the Institute and stressed the need for regular analysis of the JINR degree awarding process and identification of the most in-demand scientific specialties.
Scientific Secretary of the Qualification Committee Oleg Belov noted the stable dynamics of dissertation defences at JINR, which the Institute obtained on the adoption of independent awarding system of academic degrees. Oleg Belov also spoke about the organization of constant monitoring of the activities of the dissertation councils at the Joint Institute and regular informing of the JINR Governing and Advisory Bodies about the statistics of defences and scientific certification procedures at the Institute.
