JINR-China cooperation in the field of scientific research to be enhanced

On 15 June, the 14th regular meeting of the Russia-China Working Group on High Technology and Innovation took place in Beijing. At the invitation of the Russian side, a JINR representative, Deputy Head of the Department of Science Organization Activities Alexey Zhemchugov took part in the event. At the meeting, the parties discussed practical steps to implement the quadrilateral Protocol on Strengthening Cooperation in the Field of Basic Scientific Research, in particular, the implementation of the NICA Megascience Project and other flagship large-scale projects of institutions of both countries.
At the meeting of the Sub-commission for Scientific and Technical Cooperation of the Russian-Chinese Commission for the Preparation of Regular Meetings with Heads of Governments of the Russia-China Working Group on High Technology and Innovation, its participants discussed issues relating to the cooperation development of the two countries in the fields of scientific research, megascience projects, and joint scientific and technical events. Sergey Terashkevich, Deputy Head of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, headed the Russian delegation. Sun Jian, Deputy Head of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, headed the Chinese delegation.
The event focused on the discussion of steps taken by the parties on the implementation of the Protocol on Strengthening Cooperation in the Field of Basic Scientific Research, including on the establishment of a JINR-China Coordination Committee, an Expert Working Group, and a plan for further development. It should be noted that the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed the quadrilateral Protocol on 21 March 2023 during the visit of President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping to Russia.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the progress of the NICA Project, ways to use the experience of the successful cooperation between JINR and China within the framework of the construction of the NICA Complex. They also considered the development of cooperation and exchanges in other infrastructure megascience projects between the two countries. The parties expressed their readiness to enhance the cooperation between the two countries in the field of scientific research.
The Russia-China Sub-commission for Scientific and Technical Cooperation is going to hold the next meeting in Russia in September this year.
