Meeting with Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt

On 1 September, in Cairo, as part of the events dedicated to the preparation for the visiting sessions of the JINR Finance Committee and the Committee of Plenipotentiaries, Dmitry Kamanin, Head of the International Cooperation Department, met with Professor Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The meeting was also attended by Mahmoud Sakr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, and Gina El-Feky, Acting Vice President of the Academy. The parties focused on the development of scientific cooperation and training of highly qualified staff.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dmitry Kamanin conveyed congratulations to Professor Ashur on his appointment as Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research on behalf of the Institute’s Director Grigory Trubnikov. During the conversation, the Minister highlighted the interest of the Egyptian government in international cooperation in scientific research to facilitate the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. He highly appreciated the level of development of relations between the ARE and the JINR’s location country, Russia. The Minister paid special attention to nuclear research and the peaceful use of nuclear technologies, as well as cooperation between the Academy of Scientific Research and the Joint Institute.
Mohamed Ayman Ashour noted the importance of developing human resources and educating young researchers through interaction with advanced scientific schools. He highlighted that investing in young people was one of the most important tasks of the Egyptian state.
The Minister also noted that advance of the ARE to the full members of JINR was an important basis for the further scientific and technological development of the Egyptian research community.
The central topic of the meeting was the discussion of the regular session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States in Egypt in November this year. The parties also discussed the conducting of the Science School for Students of the Children’s University of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, which will be held in Dubna on 12 – 16 September.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Mohamed Ayman Ashour received an invitation to visit the Institute to get acquainted with JINR’s scientific capabilities and research infrastructure.
At the moment, together with the Egyptian side, preparations are underway to hold a regular session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States in Hurghada.
We kindly remind you that at the CP JINR session held in November 2021 in Bulgaria, the Arab Republic of Egypt became a full-fledged JINR Member State. The participation of Bulgarian President Rumen Radev in the CPP session confirmed its high status.
