On 20 August, Hungary, an Associate Member of JINR, celebrates the main state holiday Saint István Day.

Hungary is one of the 11 founding states of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. Currently, Hungarian scientists are involved in all the main areas of the JINR Topical Plan 2022 on 13 topics, including theoretical physics, methods, algorithms and software for modeling physical systems, mathematical processing, and analysis of experimental data. Scientists from Hungary study the interaction of neutrons with nuclei and the neutron properties, new nanomaterials using both the IBR-2 reactor and accelerated heavy ion beams in FLNR.

Hungarian researchers are members of the User Committee of the IBR-2 neutron source and take part in the traditional Dubna International Advanced School of Theoretical Physics (DIAS-TH). The University of Szeged (Hungary) together with JINR organized the VII International Conference “Modern Trends in Physics” (MTP-2021) held on 15 – 17 December 2021 in Baku. The Budapest Neutron Centre (BNC) in Hungary, as well as JINR, is part of the international programme GNeuS (Global Neutron Scientist). It is aimed at the development and financing of research using neutron scattering methods.
