Baikal Summer School on Particle Physics and Astrophysics 2022 started
News, 12 July 2022
On 12 July, the traditional XXII Summer School on Particle Physics and Astrophysics started on Lake Baikal. The event was organized by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and the Research Institute of Applied Physics of Irkutsk State University (ISU) on the basis of the ISU research station in the village Bolshiye Koty.
Students, postgraduates, and young scientists specialising in high energy physics and astrophysics are taking part in the School. JINR is represented not only among lecturers of the school, but also a number of staff members of the Institute will conduct practical classes on experimental data processing and statistical methods of data analysis.
Yury Malyshkin, a DLNP researcher and postdoc from DLNP JINR, is one of teachers of practical classes. “This year, for the first time, practical classes will be held, where we will tell students of the School about the tools they will need to analyse and process experimental data: these will be courses on ROOT, GEANT4, and machine learning. All practical courses will be delivered by staff members of DLNP JINR. We want to tell students what opportunities exist in data processing today and how it can be applied in practice,” he said.
The programme of the School offers introductory courses in the following sections: the Standard Model, neutrino physics, astrophysics, and multi-messenger astronomy. In addition, the programme includes discussions, opportunities to present your report, and establish informal contacts with lecturers and other students.
