Yuri Oganessian turns 89!

Today is a special day for the Joint Institute. On 14 April, we congratulate Yuri Tsolakovich Oganessian on his birthday. He is our pride, living legend, discoverer of heavy elements of the Periodic Table, one of which – element 118 – was named after the scientist.
Last year, Yuri Tsolakovich became one of the two laureates of the UNESCO-Russia Mendeleev International Prize for his significant contribution to the development of basic sciences.
This year, Yuri Oganessian meets his birthday in Armenia, his historical homeland where he spent his childhood and youth. These days, a JINR delegation is visiting Yerevan at the invitation of the National Academy of Science of the Republic of Armenia. The great scientist receives warm congratulations from representatives of NAS RA, as well as from his counterparts from the leading scientific organizations of the country.
The team of the Joint Institute congratulates Yuri Tsolakovich on his birthday and wishes him good health, new scientific discoveries and achievements!
