Welcome to the Baksan School on Astroparticle Physics
Education, 21 January 2019
Young scientists, advanced masters students, graduate students and postdocs working in astroparticle physics,
1 February 2019 is dedline for appling for the XVI Baksan School on Astroparticle Physics «Particles and Cosmology» which will be held on 10 – 18 April 2019 in the Terskol village, Kabardino-Balkaria, Russian Federation. The organizers of the School are the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and the Astroparticle Physics European Consortium – APPEC.
The aim of the School is to cover topics in both experimental and theoretical astroparticle physics. The program of the school will include three main lecture courses followed by tutorials, practical and discussion sessions, together with several separate lectures, a special session for participants presentations and excursion to underground laboratories of the Baksan Neutrino Observatory. The School is addressed to advanced masters students, graduate students and postdocs working in astroparticle physics.
The site of the school, the Wolfram hotel, is located in the Terskol village, the highest settlement (elevation about 2000 m) in the Baksan Valley, on the slopes of Mt. Elbrus. The highest mountain in Europe (5642 m) and one of the “Seven Summits of the World”, Elbrus is covered with glaciers, from which the Baksan river takes its origin. The Baksan gorge is connected with several small gorges, which have long been mastered by tourists and climbers. Participants of the school have a unique opportunity to go skiing and hiking during long mid-day breaks.
There are 10 fellowships for European students and 5 fellowships for students from Russia covering full-board lodging, airport transfer, banquet and excursion.
