Summer meeting of PAC for Nuclear Physics
News, 27 June 2023
A regular, the 57th Meeting of the Programme Advisory Committee for Nuclear Physics will take place on 29 – 30 June at the JINR International Conference Centre in a mixed format. The Chairman of the session Valery Nesvizhevsky will open the event and present information on the implementation of the recommendations of the previous meeting of the Committee.
Programme of PAC meeting for Nuclear Physics
JINR Vice Director Sergey Dmitriev will present information on the Resolution of the 133rd session of the JINR Scientific Council (February 2023) and on the decisions of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States (March 2023).
As part of the PAC NP meeting, proposals will be made to open new projects within the theme “Theory of nuclear systems”, which will be presented by the Deputy Director of the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics Nikolai Antonenko, and the theme “Synthesis and properties of superheavy elements, the structure of nuclei at the limits of nucleon stability”, which will be presented by the Director of the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions Sergei Sidorchuk. Reports on new projects, namely “Investigation of heavy and superheavy elements” (Alexander Karpov) and “Light exotic nuclei at the borders of nuclear stability” (Grzegorz Kaminski) will continue the programme.
FLNR Chief Engineer Igor Kalagin will make a report on the theme “Development of the FLNR accelerator complex and experimental setups (DRIBs-III)” and present a proposal to reform the theme into a major infrastructure project. Deputy Directors of the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions Andrei Popeko and Alexander Eremin will present proposals for the opening of new subprojects within this project.
Deputy Director of the Laboratory of Neutron Physics Yuri Kopatch will present to the Сommittee members a report on the theme “Investigations of neutron nuclear interactions and properties of the neutron” and the TANGRA project. In addition, reports and proposals on the extension of the TANGRA and “Modernization of EG-5” projects will be presented.
Head of the FLNP Nuclear Physics Division Valery Shvetsov will make a proposal to open a new theme “Nuclear physics with neutrons” and a new project “Investigations of neutron nuclear interactions and properties of the neutron”.
Pavel Zarubin (BECQUEREL 2023), Mihaela Paraipan (“E&T&RM” with the new title “ADSR”), Yuri Plis (Study of the nucleon spin structure in strong and electromagnetic interactions), and Igor Belolaptikov (Baikal-GVD) will make proposals for extending the projects.
The PAC NP members will consider proposals for the opening of the projects “Radiochemistry and spectroscopy for astrophysics and nuclear medicine” (Ayagoz Baimukhanova), “Short baseline reactor neutrino studies” (Igor Zhitnikov), and “Nuclear spectrometry for the search and investigation of rare phenomena” (Evgeny Yakushev).
The meeting of the PAC members with the JINR Directorate will continue the programme of the meeting. Adoption of the PAC recommendations and proposals for the agenda of the next meeting of the Committee will conclude the event.
