On 5 June 2019, a delegation of representatives from the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) visited JINR. The delegation was headed by CIAE Director Wan Gang who had already visited JINR in August 2018. The delegation was represented by Director of the Department of Nuclear Physics Chen Dongfeng, Director of the International Cooperation Office Zhang Jing, as well as senior experts of the Department of Nuclear Physics Lin Chengjian, Li Xiaomei, and Han Wenze, who had repeatedly visited JINR.

The key aim of the delegation in Dubna was the participation in a jointly organized memorial seminar on 5 June dedicated to Academician Wang Ganchang, a prominent Chinese scientist, one of the JINR founders and JINR Vice-Director (1958-1960). The seminar was opened by JINR Director Academician V. A. Matveev. CIAE Director Wan Gang and VBLHEP Chief Researcher V. A. Nikitin, who knew Wang Ganchang, made reports on the scientific biography of the scientist. The scientific exchange continued the seminar: three reports on the scientific infrastructure and the key research were delivered by the CIAE party. On behalf of the JINR party, Head of the FLNR Sector “Structure of light exotic nuclei” A. S. Fomichev put forward a proposal for cooperation in the fields of radioactive nuclei.

The CIAE delegation had a meeting with JINR leaders in the JINR Directorate in order to discuss practical opportunities for the implementation of the memorandum on mutual understanding between JINR and CIAE signed in April 2018. The CIAE representatives expressed their interest in cooperation on a range of fields, in particular, in the frames of the NICA mega-science project. The JINR party made an offer to implement this field of cooperation in the format of participation in already established international collaborations of the MPD and BM@N experiments at the NICA collider, as well as the SPD collaboration being created. The CIAE representatives showed their vivid interest in cooperation opportunities in the fields of FLNP, FLNR, and LRB scientific research.

The parties made positive comments about an opportunity to regularly hold the memorial seminar of Wan Ganchang in the future and to organize the second seminar next year in the Chinese Institute of Atomic Energy.

On 5 June, the delegation visited the Laboratory of Neutron Physics and the Laboratory of High Energy Physics and joined the JEMS training programme for the next two days in order to get acquainted with the Institute in greater detail. To find out particular growth points in practical cooperation with JINR, the CIAE representatives held additional working meetings with heads of FLNP, VBLHEP, and FLNR.
