Nucleus 2015

News, 10 July 2015

The International Conference on Nuclear Physics «Nucleus 2015. New Horizons in Nuclear Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Femto- and Nanotechnologies» was held on 29 June – 3 July 2015 in St. Petersburg and Peterhof.

The conference was devoted to the 60th anniversary of JINR. Director of the Kurchatov Research Center I.Kovalchuk was a Chairman of the organizing committee. The organizing committee included famous scientists in the fields of nuclear physics from Dubna – V.Aksenov, Yu.Oganessian, V.Matveev, M.Itkis, V.Kalinnikov, V.Voronov, Yu. Penionzhkevich and from foreign research centers – W.Greiner (Frankfurt), J.Hamilton (Vanderbilt), J.Vaagen (Bergen), A.Dyusebaev (Almaty), Z.Hoffmann (Darmstadt), W.von Oertzen (Berlin), J.Viñas (Barcelona). The conference was attended by about 120 scientists from almost all universities of Russia and the CIS countries, of which 30 were representatives of JINR. In total, scientists from Dubna provided about 80 abstracts for the conference. A special session dedicated to the 60th anniversary of JINR was held in the auditorium of the St. Petersburg State University. A few review reports on the research at JINR were presented at the session. Professor V.Aksenov presented a report on neutron research in Russia and, in particular, JINR. The report of Professor Yu. Penionzhkevich contained information about research at the basic JINR facilities and new facilities which are expected to serve for research of exotic states of nuclear matter. Professor V.Korenkov reported about development of information technologies at JINR. Interesting reports were made by D.Kamanin about the discovery of new types of nuclear isomerism in heavy nuclei and by V.Egorov about registration and study of the properties of neutrinos from nuclear reactors.

The rest of the meetings was held in the auditorium of the Institute of Physics of the St. Petersburg State University in Peterhof. The interesting and rich scientific programme of the conference was accompanied by informative cultural programmes and various events. The venue of the conference produced a creative atmosphere and contributed largely to development of scientific contacts of various groups from Russian institutes and universities, as well as research centers of the CIS countries.
