New version of device for resonance charge of capacitor
Patents, 19 May 2022
JINR has received the patent for a device for resonance charge of a capacitor. The authors of the work are Sergey Dolya and Victor Smirnov. A bright patent in 2020 reserved the rights to a similar device. This time, changes made to the device design allow the authors to fully protect the invention from copying. The modified device design allows obtaining only negative but higher voltage.
Authors of invention: V. I. Smirnov and S. N. Dolya
Resonance charge consists of several charging-recharging cycles of the capacitor, voltage on which increases from cycle to cycle and, as a result, several times exceeds the double voltage of the power source. The idea of the patented device is almost identical to the idea of one of the previous patents No. 2734903 “Device for resonance charge of capacitor” received 2 years ago. It was one of the top-100 inventions of Russia for the second half of 2020. The difference between the devices lies in the fact that a diode is used instead of a transistor in the rechargeable circuit. It equally allows the inventors to obtain desired results, namely, to solve a technical problem of charging the capacitor to the voltage several times higher than the voltage of the power supply source and reduce the charge time.

“It is soon planned to apply supercapacitors with the use of the new technology as parts of circuits requiring instantaneous maximum power. For example, for car or locomotive starters. The economic effect is achieved by using less powerful and more affordable power sources,” – the Federal Service for Intellectual Property believes.
At present, supercapacitors are in high demand, thus, the probability of using the patent by other organizations is increasing. This can sometimes happen without purchasing a license. Therefore, the JINR employees have registered an additional patent in order to fully reserve the patent rights.
“The previous patent could be easily avoided by replacing just one element. We have made up a new patent application making some changes to the device design that no longer allow circumventing copyright,” one of the patent authors Victor Ivanovich Smirnov commented. Moreover, he said that the differences in the used elements of the electrical circuit lead to the following. In the first version with a transistor, it is possible to obtain both positive and negative voltage, while in the version with a diode only negative one but about five percent higher.
More details about the invention. Patent No. 2770864
The device for resonant charging of a capacitor belongs to the field of electrical engineering and converter technology and can be used to power impulse loads. The device includes a power source, a transistor connected in series with it, an inductance, and a capacitor. A recharge inductance and a diode are connected in parallel with the capacitor. Due to the recharging of the capacitor to a voltage of the opposite sign, the charge current amplitudes increase in magnitude from cycle to cycle, thereby increasing the energy transferred to the capacitor from cycle to cycle and reducing the capacitor charge time.
