National holiday of Mongolia
Organization, 11 July 2023
On 11- 13 July, Mongolia, a Member State of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, celebrates its main national holiday Naadam.
Mongolia has been a JINR Member State since the Institute’s foundation. For more than half a century Mongolian scientists have been successfully taking part in the Institute’s activities. Nowadays the cooperation is underway within 15 themes of the JINR Topical Plan on all the major scientific directions, including the educational programme. Researchers of Mongolia work at FLNP, FLNR, MLIT, LRB, VBLHEP, and BLTP JINR.
On 27 June 2022, a delegation of the Embassy of Mongolia to the Russian Federation visited JINR. During the visit, the parties discussed prospects for the Mongolia-JINR cooperation enhancement and paid special attention to the educational field and spread of information about the Institute.
In 2021 – 2022, a scientific group from the Laboratory of Neutron Physics JINR together with employees of the Institute of Physics and Technology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences conducted biomonitoring of air in Ulaanbaatar. The researchers used mosses as biomonitors and found 16 chemical elements in their samples. The study allowed them not only to find out that the content of elements in mosses was different depending on the season but also to identify the main pollutants.
On 13 October 2022, employees of the Institute of Physics and Technology MAS held a seminar at JINR dedicated to the topic “Experimental estimation of masses of light quarks in the processes of multi-particle production”.
During the past and current years, JINR scientists have published articles with the participation of Mongolian scientists. They are devoted to the regularities and characteristics of heavy ion isotopes produced at the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, application of the KANTBP software developed at the Laboratory of Information Technologies for the task of diffractionn in waveguide. Among the topics of the articles are the study of DNA damages caused by radiation-enhanced gold nanoparticles, the study of the Boson Higgs coupling with electroweak boson at the ATLAS Detector in CERN, analytical limitations in modern hadron physics, etc.
The Directorate of the Institute congratulates Mongolian colleagues on the national holiday of Naadam and wishes them and their loved ones health, happiness, and fruitful work at the multinational Institute for the benefit of science and progress!
