A world-renowned Russian physicist, science organizer and public figure, member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Academician Victor Anatolievich Matveev turns 75 on 11 December 2016.

V.A. Matveev, who was elected Director of JINR in 2011, is the organizer of implementation of a uniquely sophisticated and ambitious programme of development of the international scientific center in Dubna. The main objectives of this programme are improvement of the advanced world level research infrastructure for fundamental and applied innovative research, development and establishment of new experimental facilities and research facilities of the mega-science class (Superconducting heavy-ion collider NICA, the Factory of superheavy elements, Multifunctional Information and Computing Complex based on Grid-technology, parallel and cloud technology, etc.), renewal of JINR as an open international research center, development of wide cooperation with national and international research centers, training of qualified scientific personnel.

The fruitful activities of V.A. Matveyev in international organizations serves to maintaining of the high prestige of Russian science in the world community, enhancement of participation of JINR and Russian scientists in advanced scientific research.
