A JINR delegation took part in a workshop dedicated to the milestones of a one-year work of the Information Centre (IC) in the South of Russia that was held on 7 – 8 November 2019 in Vladikavkaz.
The scientific and educational part of the meeting was devoted to the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements. FLNR Deputy Director A. G. Popeko delivered a public lecture on the synthesis of superheavy elements. Schoolchildren from Vladikavkaz studying natural sciences in-depth and NOSU students were the main audience. The lecture was concluded with a discussion.
Rector of the North Ossetian State University A. U. Ogoev opened the first meeting of the working part of the workshop. Participants expressed their satisfaction with the results of a one-year work. Thus, it was the first year for a long time when there was a competition for the study at the NOSU Physics and Technology Department, and the IC greatly helped in it.
IC Director N. E. Pukhaeva in her report noted that two schools for young scientists were held, namely on the topical fields of JINR activities and on information technologies, three popular science lectures were made. Active work was conducted with school students of the region: more than 20 excursions were organized, three seminars for teachers of physics and methodologists were held. Scientific cooperation and participation of students in the JINR educational programmes were facilitated: an open classroom on nuclear physics with virtual laboratories worked for schoolchildren, 5 students passed training programmes in JINR, and another five took part in schools and conferences, and one of them was NEC-2019. Moreover, the IC contributed to the development of contacts with industrial companies, in particular, offers were made on the development of “halo” sensors of charged particles for accelerators. GRAN Chief Engineer I. N. Goncharov presented these developments.
The round table on the cooperation development was attended also by deans of NOSU departments of natural sciences, heads of some scientific fields, as well as by guests from the Kabardino-Balkarian State University, the North Caucasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the Institute of Advanced Training of Education Workers, the Planetarium. Deputy Director of the JINR University Centre (UC) A. S. Zhemchugov told about the UC programmes and answered numerous questions. A detailed discussion of the cooperation in the fields of educational programmes was continued in the office of Dean of the Physics and Technology Department I. V. Tvauri. Head of the BLTP Sector S. N. Nedelko, a NOSU alumnus, took an active part in the discussion of educational programmes.
NOSU Vice-Rector for Science B. V. Tuaeva and Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department D. V. Kamanin summed up the results of the workshop and plans for the IC work in 2020. In particular, the IC plans to hold international workshops with the JINR participation at the NOSU site on the MPD NICA experiment, radiobiology and space research, information technologies and nuclear and physical methods of the elemental analysis. There are no doubts that the hosts of the site will provide the most convenient conditions, and everything will be at the highest level. It is yet another milestone of the IC work for the past year.
