Independence Day of Republic of Moldova

On 27 August, Moldova, a Member State of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, celebrates its national holiday the Independence Day. The Republic of Moldova, as part of the USSR, joined JINR since its foundation in 1956. As a sovereign republic, Moldova has been a JINR Member State since 1992.
The Moldova – JINR collaboration involves scientific organizations of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, namely the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, the Institute of Applied Physics, the Institute of Chemistry and the Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology, as well as the Moldova State University and the Research and Educational Networking Association of Moldova (RENAM).
Moldavian scientists cooperate with JINR on 9 topics of the Topical Plan for Institute’s research and international cooperation. Their scientific interests are fundamental and applied research at heavy ion beams, investigations of neutron nuclear interactions and properties of the neutron, research in the field of Raman microspectrometry and photoluminescence, conducting biomedical and radiation-genetic studies. The cooperation is developing in the fields of a theory of nuclear systems, computational physics, as well as staff training.
The Republic of Moldova participates in the creation of the NICA Complex, as well as the development and construction of the prototype of a complex for radiotherapy and applied research with heavy-ion beams at the Nuclotron.
On 18 January 2023, the Council of Heads of National Groups of the Member States of the Joint Institute resumed its work at the JINR International Conference Centre after a break. The Head of the National Group of Moldova Constantin Hramco was elected one of the deputy chairmen of the Council.
From 9 to 15 July, Moldovan scientists took part in the 14th Meeting “Modern Problems in Nuclear and Particle Physics” organized in South Korea by the Asia-Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics and BLTP JINR.
On 26 July, a meeting was held of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to the Russian Federation Lilian Darii and JINR Director RAS Academician Grigory Trubnikov. The parties discussed various aspects of the development of cooperation: prospects for joint activities and research, participation of the Institute in the training of scientific staff for Moldova.
