Delegation of the Republic of Korea visited JINR

On 19 April 2017, a delegation of the Republic of Korea headed by Minister Plenipotentiary, Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Russian Federation Kang Daesoo and Executive Director of the Korea Russia Science & Technology Cooperation Center KORUSTEC Kim Tae Hee paid a reconnaissance visit to the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The Korean delegation also included Science Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea Jeong Tek Ryeol and Manager of the Korea Russia Science & Technology Cooperation Center KORUSTEC Min Gong Seong.
The guests were welcomed at the JINR Directorate by Director V.A. Matveev, Vice-Director M.G. Itkis, Chief Scientific Secretary A.S. Sorin, Head of International Cooperation Department D.V. Kamanin, Head of the FLNP Department of Condensed Matter Physics A.V. Belushkin and Advisor at the Directorate O.A. Krokhin. The meeting was started with a brief presentation of JINR presented by A.S. Sorin. The participants of the meeting discussed the status of cooperation and prospects for its development, as well as new contacts between JINR and Korean universities established during the recent visit of a JINR delegation to Seoul.
Acquaintance of the Korean delegation with JINR was continued in scientific departments of the Institute. The guests visited the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions where they were acquainted with the FLNR accelerator complex and synthesis of superheavy elements; the delegation also visited the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics where they were introduced to the NICA mega-science project, in particular, the factory of superconducting magnets.
As a result of the visit, the parties agreed on further steps to develop contacts, in particular, it was planned a JINR delegation to participate in the First Korea-Russia Science & Technology Day, which will be held in June 2017 in Moscow.
