Considering information technologies in the JINR Information Centre

On 27 – 28 May 2019, the IT School for young scientists “Modern IT technologies for solving scientific challenges” was held in the JINR Information Centre in Vladikavkaz. The School was organized jointly by JINR and the Khetagurov North Ossetian State University (NOSU) on the basis of the JINR information Centre in the South of Russia.
Rector of the North Ossetian State University A. U. Ogoev welcomed participants at the opening of the School. Director of the Laboratory of Information Technologies V. V. Korenkov, Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department D. V. Kamanin as well as Senior Researcher of the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems JINR, Director of the JINR Information Centre in Vladikavkaz N. E. Pukhaeva delivered their welcoming speeches on behalf of JINR.
More than 70 young scientists and specialists from universities and institutes of the South of Russia took part in the School. In particular, there were participants from the Kabardino-Balkarian State University, the Karachay-Cherkessia State University, the North Caucasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the Pyatigorsk State University, the Geophysical Institute of the Vladikavkaz Scientific Centre of RAS, the Grozny State Oil Technical University, the Chechen State University, NOSU, and the North Caucasian State Academy.
During two days, JINR specialists introduced to participants of the School modern methods of big data analysis, tendencies in the development of parallel and distributed computing. During lectures, computer modelling as a method of study of complicated systems was considered, as well as such fields of artificial intelligence as neural networks, machine and deep learning were presented to participants. Lectures dedicated to the JINR neutrino programme, the NICA mega-science project and issues of international cooperation were also presented to School students.
A considerable part of the School’s programme was dedicated to tutorials. They were held by leading specialists from LIT JINR with the use of the most advanced computation architectures of the Heterogeneous platform “HybriLIT” in which the “Govorun” supercomputer is one of the constituents. Participants of the event had an opportunity to practise the techniques of parallel programming MPI, OpenMP, OpenCL. They were acquainted with basics of Python programming, the GitLab system for joint development of a code, and the Spark system for parallel processing of data.
In the frames of the School, a meeting dedicated to outlining plans for work and development of the Information Centre was held with the participation of NOSU Rector A. U. Ogoev, Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology I. V. Tvauri, and Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Technology R. Ch. Kulaev
